Dr. Mendia is responsible for the fundamental project and the creation of this site Cardiovascularprevention.com which required several years of research and planning. The first version of the site was launched on line in May 2007. Since then the site has been continuously updated and modified with additional new material.
Cardiovascularprevention.com was created because of the fact that cardiovascular diseases, like myocardial infarctions, and stroke , are the main cause of mortality and morbidity in Italy and other industrialised countries, higher than all forms of cancer, but in spite of this fact, no detailed prevention programs exist on a national basis.
Cholesterol analysis and common risk factors failed to predict more than one third of cardiac deaths caused by coronary artery disease. In fact, in approximately 30% of patients, myocardial infarction or sudden death are the first signs of coronary artery disease, in patients with no apparent risk factors.
This site contains certain innovative instruments for advanced assessment of cardiovascular risk , for calculating the level of cardiovascular risk (also including new risk factors) for studying cardiovascular pathologies still in the pre-clinical phase. For this reason, this site is directed at identifying these asymptomatic patients, but who are at high risk, and therefore vulnerable.
It would seem that up till today no tests have been published on line to identify and quantify coronary and carotid Atherosclerosis (ATS test), set up in relation to an in-depth assessment of common and uncommon risk factors
(FR Test).
